My focus is branding – online and off. I tell my clients, and anyone else who will listen, that YOU are your brand. While branding consists of all the things you might think of such as a logo, color scheme, website, marketing materials, etc., I operate on the premise that it also includes your social presence and your physical presence. To that end, I assist small business owners and individuals with developing and/or enhancing their social presence as well as their physical presence i.e. personal style.
In a nutshell, your social presence is how your brand (you, your company or organization) is perceived by the world via social media and social platforms. Having a social presence is critical to brand management; however, it should not be your only consideration. Traditional media still has it’s place in marketing and branding and should also be considered. Additionally, when you are out and about in the world, people don’t immediately see your website or marketing materials, but they do see YOU. Your personal style should mirror how you would like for people to perceive you and your business.
Every individual, nonprofit organization and for profit entity should ask these questions when considering your brand’s place in the world:
What is your social presence? Do you have one? Do you even know what it means?
Do you have any social networking accounts? If not, why not? If so, are you utilizing them effectively?
Do you have a website or blog? ? If not, why not? If so, how often do you post content?
How effectively are you communicating your brand’s message? Are you utilizing the social media tools available to you?
Do you know what people are saying about your brand? How do you engage your audience?
I realize that not everyone has the time, or even knows how, to utilize these tools; yet in today’s 2.0 world some utilization of social media is critical to brand management.
