I must agree with your obvious disgust at the impact bullying can have on young people and children.Part of the problem is the support and encouragement given to the bully in their nasty activities. Much more needs to be done in schools and the community to understand, educate and skill people to resist and replace bullying abusive behaviour. I offer help and support for victims of bullying and cyberbullying and those supporting them. For free downloadable e-books and other resources go to my bullywatch website.

I totally agree with you. Sure, Whitney had her demons -- we all do. But let's remember her legacy, her incredible talent gone too soon. And keep poor Bobbi Cristina in our thoughts. So sad...

Thanks so much for your comment, Najeema! I can't imagine having to go through such a tragic loss in the public eye. Too many people are so much more focused on hurting than healing.

I have many of the same feelings about this loss. Thanks for your honest post, causing many of us to look at how we love and how we can demand so much from others that it hurts.
We need to keep Bobbi Christina in our prayers and hearts and in our hands. Keep her lifted up.

Thanks so much for your comment, Tony. I see what you're saying in that Whitney seemed more down to earth and relatable compared to Michael, making her passing somewhat more of a shock. Her death was kind of more "this could've happened to your next door neighbor" than MJ's - being that the average person doesn't have a private physician on call to pump them up with drugs. I can't say that I expected Michael's life to turn out as it did though. I expected him to go on the 'This Is It!' tour and kick ass and take names. It's all just so very sad.

I agree that MJ passing was more of a shock to me than Whitney. I'm not trying to diminish what she did or what she meant. But pop culture in the 80s was Michael Jackson to a degree.

I will also say Whitney passing was sadder to me. We all know what she went though but it felt like it was controllable. I know I've met addicts over the course of my life that were a lot like her. So its sad to see someone who had so much to live for seem to be overcome by her demons. Not that its official yet but things are pointing to that. Michael Jackson just seems to be heading down the road he was for so long. His reality was not the real world. So while it hurt more, it was... inevitable maybe?

Great post.

Love this blog! I definitely agree that women should not look good for men /women. We need to look good for ourselves. If you look good, you should feel good. We should feel good for no one but ourselves. Ladies, let's not let the likes and dislikes of a man determine how you wear your hair, makeup or clothes.

Thanks for your comment, Jackie! I agree that the movie did not come off at all corny or try to make you pity Alike. There were so many different layers to the story - her relationship w/ her parents, her relationship w/ her best friend (who was definitely going through her own drama,) and most importantly, her relationship w/ herself. Part of what made this movie great to me is that I felt for Alike. I felt for her as if she was my little sister/cousin/neighbor. Not a lot of movies can do that.

Love that line. I feel like the points you outlined is why the movie is so great. Despite what may seem like unique experiences, Alike and the other characters' stories are translatable. I also loved that the movie did not veer into the "corny" territory or into the "depths of despair." It was an honest depiction of real life.

Thanks for your comment, Naseya! I wonder if we were there at the same time. I understand your feeling of being underwhelmed. I think I also expected it to be "more" in some regard. More what, I'm not sure. Some of it may have had to do with the liberal definition of the term "art" but that's nothing new. Like I said, of the three exhibits that I saw, 30 Americans wasn't my favorite one. I wish the other two had been larger.
